Match Preview
Victoria Mboko is just one win away from securing her second WTA title of the year after a thrilling comeback victory over Leylah Fernandez in the semifinals. The 19-year-old Canadian dropped the first set but rallied strongly to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, showcasing her resilience and top-level shot-making.
On the other side of the net will be Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, who earned her first-ever spot in a WTA final. Bucsa defeated the in-form Maya Joint with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 performance, capping off what has been the best season of her career. Ranked world No. 68, she is set to break into the top 50 if she wins the title.
Mboko and Bucsa have met once before, earlier this year in Madrid, where Mboko won convincingly 6-3, 6-2. While Bucsa is in strong form, Mboko’s highest level remains more dominant, and her experience in winning a bigger title in Montreal could give her an edge on this big stage.
Nerves may also come into play for Bucsa, who is appearing in the biggest match of her career. If Mboko finds her rhythm early, this final could follow a similar pattern to their first meeting.
Prediction
Tip: Victoria Mboko to win in straight sets (2-0).
