Meet DJI Neo 2 - 4K Video, LiDAR Safety, and Longer Flight in One Pocket Drone

DJI Neo 2 Drone: DJI has introduced the Neo 2, the successor to last year’s popular Neo selfie drone. This new model comes packed with upgrades in safety, performance, camera quality, and overall usability. To check out its official photos and full specifications, you’ll need to switch DJI’s website region to Hong Kong or China.

Improved Safety with LiDAR Technology

The biggest improvement is the addition of LiDAR sensors for obstacle detection. These are combined with downward-facing infrared sensors to help the drone safely follow users without crashing into objects. The propellers still have protective guards, but the new sensor system gives extra confidence while flying.

New Gesture Controls

Neo 2 now supports gesture controls, making it easier to film hands-free. You can move your hand to control the drone’s distance and position. It also still works with motion controllers and DJI’s RC-N3 remote.

Faster and More Stable Performance

  • Top speed: Almost 27 mph, a noticeable jump from the previous model.

  • Wind resistance: Can hover steadily even in winds of up to 24 mph.

  • Battery life: Upgraded to a 1606mAh battery, giving up to 19 minutes of flight time (compared to 14–17 minutes on the original).

Camera and Video Enhancements

  • Uses the same 1/2-inch image sensor as before.

  • Now includes a dual-axis gimbal for smoother video.

  • Wider field of view for better shots.

  • Records in 4K at 60 FPS, or up to 100 FPS in manual flight mode.

More Storage, Slightly Heavier

  • Internal storage increased from 22GB to 49GB.

  • The drone now weighs 151 grams (up from 135 grams), but the improved speed and battery make the weight gain almost unnoticeable.

Availability and Price

Currently, the Neo 2 is only sold in China. The price is 1,499 Chinese Yuan, which is roughly $211 USD. It’s expected to stay close to the original’s price range, but tariffs or import taxes might change that if it launches globally.

Fans loved the first Neo—called by many “the best $200 drone ever”—so there’s a lot of hope that DJI will release this model worldwide soon.
