Streaming service Disney+ is now offering support for the HDR10+ format – and it’s rolling out with more than 1,000 titles from Hulu available immediately.
Here’s what’s happening: Starting right now, users of Disney+ on compatible devices will be able to watch Hulu-catalog titles in the HDR10+ format. That means better brightness, richer colors, and more lifelike contrast on screens that support it.
This upgrade is most relevant to those using Samsung TVs – models from Crystal UHD upward, dating back to 2018, as well as certain Samsung Smart Monitors. These are the first devices to support the change.
Why this matters: Samsung’s TVs have long supported HDR10 and HDR10+ formats but not Dolby Vision, which means that until now, even if a streaming title was available in Dolby Vision, Samsung sets would often fall back to standard HDR10 – which doesn’t take full advantage of the display’s potential.
With this shift, Samsung-TV owners with Disney+ subscriptions get to experience content in a higher-quality format tuned for their hardware. Disney+ is open about the fact that more Hulu and Disney+ titles will get HDR10+ support over time, beyond the initial 1,000+.
From a technical standpoint, HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata that adjusts the brightness and contrast scene-by-scene, rather than using a fixed profile across an entire movie or episode. That helps preserve detail in dark or bright scenes and keeps the creator’s intent intact. Samsung’s announcement highlights this.
Samsung also points out that its latest 2025 TV models include the “Samsung Vision AI” suite, which further enhances picture and sound experiences and introduces voice/companion features. HDR10+ is integrated into this broader upgrade.
What you should check: If you own a Samsung TV from 2018 or later (Crystal UHD and above) – especially the 2025 Neo QLED 8K/4K, The Frame/Frame Pro, or Micro RGB models – and you subscribe to Hulu and/or Disney+, you’ll want to look for the HDR10+ badge on titles in the Disney+ app. If you don’t see it yet, the rollout may still be in progress.
In summary: This move gives Samsung-TV owners a significant content quality upgrade via Disney+. For the streaming platform, offering HDR10+ is a way to ensure their titles play optimal on a wider range of TVs (including those that don’t support Dolby Vision). And for viewers it means more immersive visuals when the hardware supports it.
